I have a 1983 Volvo aq125.motor start and run like its going to stall out.if I give it gas it will stall.I'm using fresh gas,new spark plugs,and have good pressure coming from the file pump. I have spark on all 4 plugs. Wires ,cap,rotor all clean.points look good to.help please

Ayuh,.... Sounds like it might be time to pull the carb, 'n go through it...

Well I did take off Carb and look at the float and other parts and used some Carb cleaner all through out the Carb.all seem to look and work fine.the diaframe even looked good to me .gas is going through it.

this is crazy this motor was runing good for 2 months now .I took it out last week and road it around for 1hr and then parked and did some swimming, got back in the boat and had this problem.the pluges are about 2 month old.

You just need to adjust the carb and double check the timing. Well, in reverse actually. Check timing, then adjust the carb.

Adjust all 3 settings on the carb. Idle, mixture, and accel pump.

ok now how do i do the timing? is it hard? do i need to buy a tool.

Can't tell much by looking at points as the dwell is the "thing" that they control. Need to do full tuenup with new points, gap setting then dwell checked and gap adjusted to get the dwell in spec. Set timing, check timing advance. Need at least new sparkplugs after that. See how it behaves after that.

I missed this part somehow. Since it was running just fine, it could have jumped a tooth on the timing belt. That would throw everything out of whack and let it idle ok but die with any throttle.

You would have to align the crank pulley with the mark on the block and then look at the cam pulley to see if it is aligned with its mark as well. The intermediate shaft doesn't actually matter, but you can check it too. .

If the pulleys are all aligned correctly, then check ignition timing (using a timing light) and adjust the carb.

Timing is supposed to be at 10degrees BTDC when at 750 rpm, a little lower than normal idle of 900rpm. Then you check it at 4200 rpm and it should read 36degrees IIRC, you should double check the numbers in the manual, I'm just going off of memory.

Once the timing is set, adjust the idle to 900. Adjust the accel pump to be fast and responsive. And adjust the mixture screw so it doesn't die when you punch it.

I know you mentioned good pressure coming from the fuel pump, is this just at low speed/idle? I would really consider the fuel filters, my AQ225 has two, one at the seperator and another small cartridge in the carb. Not sure if your carb has the second filter. You could have picked up some dirt or sediment when it was shut off or restarted. Also, the fuel pump could be failing, these things can work great at idle/low speed, but loose pressure on acceleration.

If the engine runs smooth at idle, it sounds like a fuel starvation problem to me. Especially considering the circumstances.

yes all that timing is way out my lead.ill have to take boat to a shop for that.and no the motor do not idle good at all
