motor starts and dies

hey all. so i took my 18 hp evinrude out on saturday and it was running good for a while, then at full throttle it died and when i tried to start it again it would start up for a second or two then die. anyone know where i should start. its a 1957 fastwin

I'm thinking it may be a fuel issue. Try inspecting/cleaning the carb. The floatneedle may be getting stuck and preventing proper fuel flow at full throttle, and/or the high speed needle may not be prorperly adjusted. Just a couple guesses.

Will it stay running if you push the primer button on the tank? Maybe your tank isn't holding pressure.

well it was running good for about an hour. so i will look at the carb. the tank holds pressure well it leaks a little out of the top but nothing major. what fuel ratio and what kind of oil should i use

24:1 fuel mix. Some folks even do 16:1, but that seems like a bit much. Good luck.
