Re: motor swap
that all depends on a lot of factors. your budget, knowledge of swaps, what kind of power you want, fuel economy. the outdrive MIGHT be able to take a mild v6, with a possible prop change, tho that's not the recommended way. the gear ratio in outdrive won't take a strong v6 or v8. i'm still in process with my 89 which also had the 2.3 and cobra drive. i ended up gutting all the drivetrain, motor, drive, exhaust, everything. i bought a donor boat with complete mercruiser setup, v8 motor, outdrive, exhaust, trim pump, all of it, and swapped in myself. including cost of boat, taking into account the few bucks i was able to get out of the old stuff and donor boat, i'm into the swap about $600. however, this is just what i'm into it for. i've spent countless hours scouring craigslist and such for parts. the swap is for the most part, pretty straight forward. starting from scratch, you would need the motor, all accessories, exhaust parts, new drive, or old drive re-geared, as well as various little parts. my advice, shop around now for what you want to replace the 2.3, add everything up, and see if it's within your budget.
