:D A GOOD SUNDAY MORNING to everyone... any quick tips for switching motors ????!!!!

specs: (I hope I filled everyone in enough!)
motor type 1981 50 hp merc
FROM: 1970's SkeeBee - 12' nice boat but too small to fish in, bought it with a 1981 50HP Merc.

TO the 1960's Glastron 14' stearing wheel, reburbished with new fishing seats and a new paint job.

(Q: how smooth does the bottom have to be, smooth like a sheet of glass?) I noticed something in the motor manual. IF there is dents or bulges it affects how the boat runs in the water... so I wondered how much either way it allows before performance is jeapordized?

p.s. I still have not found a serial number on the 90 merc.

A: yes we have water up here in Lloydminster Saskatchewan Canada!

Thanks for all your help, This is my first year as a boat owner!! And what a THRILL this has been!!

I have a long way to go before I learn everything, but I am so excited and thankful that this forum is so giving. THANK YOU!

see you in the morn... it's going to be a fabulous day here in Northern Canada!!
I hope to start the switch late tomorrow or Mon night. Got to have it on the boat by Thurs night!

Thanks again
and Good Night

Stormy;)

Stormy, I guess I really do not understand your post. Are you moving the 50 Merc to the 14' boat? if so, back the current boat under the garage door, let the trailer tung go on the ground, hang the motor from the garage door header with a chain. Now lift up the trailer tongue, and the motor should be off. Switch the hulls and reverse the process. Dont't forget to caulk the bolt holes.
