motor tie down?

when trailering my boat to the ramp what should i do about the motor, their is a bracket on the motor to keep it in the up position, but i was told it is for the mechanic. what do other people do?

Lots of folks use a device called a Transom Saver to secure motor to the trailer to prevent motor from bouncing and moving around while trailering. The motor tilt lock device is not generally strong enough to take the beating while trailering. I've used Transom Saver for many years and they work very well. Transom Savers are sold in Overton's, Cabela's, on-line, other places for about $35, give or take. Good Luck!

Robert is correct. The tilt-lock bracket, usually made from rather thin metal, is not designed for trailering and will quickly fail if you use it for that purpose. There may be what is called a trailering bracket made for your motor (which is what, by the way?). Mine is made from 1/2" steel rod and fits in specific holes in the transom bracket. A factory one lists for over $100 but I found an aftermarket one for $18. With this, I don't need a transom saver.

thank's for the info i looked at some on line all i need to do now is get the right one! didnt realize that there is so much stuff to buy. john

Welcome to iboats.

Transom saver's are pretty universal and you should be able to pick one up for less then $35....... yup when you are starting "fresh" the little things add up!
