Motor trouble

Took my Mercury 200 HP out for first time today. I ran it last week with hose hooked up to it and it went into both gears with no problem. Today, I put it on the water and all was good until I took off. Engine revved and the propulsion stopped. Now the prop easily turns in both directions. Am I in trouble?

Re: Motor trouble

Probably just a spun hub. Were you able to make a little bit of forward progress at really low RPMs, say just above idle?

yes. there is also a washer type piece behind the pro nut that has teeth. It is slightly bent in and the teeth have bent out and passed over the groves that they look like they fit into.

Re: Motor trouble

That's there to help retain the prop nut. It does sound like you have a spun hub. If it were my rig I'd pull the prop and take it to a marine dealer for confirmation then ask them to sell me a new prop and send that one off to be re-hubbed. If you can't swing the new prop you can just wait until the re-hub is complete, but it's never a bad idea to have a spare prop. If it turns out I'm wrong about the hub it'll be back to the drawing board. Good luck.
