How did you bypass the ignition?

why did you bypass the ignition? do u think it may be faulty? have u tried the old + side of coil to + side of battery trick? did that work?

That is a good way to to check the run part of the ignition circuit, but if you leave it connected for more then just for testing you will have burned out your coil. You have to reduce the voltage to the + side of the coil by either a ballast resister or resitive wire. I think you should have 9VDC +/-1 volt.<br />Also check the gap on your points, it should be .020"-.022" I am assuming since you have an older boat like mine you have points.

Hey rattana, do you have some messenger so that I could talk to you faster? Ok, That is how I bypassed the ignition with a resistive wire. When I got it, it didn't have a key. I got it from a friend that owns a junk yard. Yes it has points, you are correct, I am getting fire to the distibutor cap, I tested one of the wires, I took it off of the plug, and put a screw driver into the end of the wire, and put it up next to the plug, and there was no spark. Wouldn't that be like maybe a faulty wire? I would have tested more strinuously, but it started raining.

Sorry I don't have messenger. First off make sure the points are opening and closing as you crank the motor. If they are and you have 12 volts to the positive side of the coil and the negative side is connected as per the wiring diagram. I would suspect the coil. They don't like a full 12 volts, they need a reduced voltage. Do you have another coil you could try temporarily? My book is outside I could walk you through the negative side wiring of the coil if you are unsure of it. That way you could eliminate the shift interrupt switch as a problem.

Well, I am getting a blue spark from the coil wire to the distributor, and blue spark from the distibutor to the plug wires, but I am not getting any spark from plug wire to a plug. I know the firing order, but which plug is one? It is an inline 4 cyl. Would one be the one closest to the front, by the pullies, or away from them?

Numbering system from the front to the rear 1-2-3-4. The firing order is 1-3-4-2. The plugs could be badly fouled from trying to start. Do you have a known good plug to try?

well I just replaced all of them three days ago. Ok, I took the carburator off and cleaned it completely out. Used small wire to clean the jets and sanded and cleaned everything. It isn't giving any gas. but I can manually gas it until i get it to crank. I will just get a new carb. I was also told that I can hook up two batteries and sort of jump it off, yes I have another coil so that I don't mess this one up. Do you think that will help?

What happens when you put a plug in the lead coming out of the coil and holding it on the block?
