Just installed new flywheel due to magnet coming off, now when I try to crank the motor it turns very slowly, If I take the plugs out it spins like crazy, I am stumped at this point the battery shows full charge, any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks

Very common problem, LH, very commonly caused by hidden corrosion in connections of battery cables.

Take both cables off, scrub the connectors shiny and reconnect. Short cables from solenoid to starter also are suspect.

Other possibles:

Bad battery. Showing full charge is testimony not under oath. . . er. . .load. Test with hydrometer.

Bad starter. Test by jumping battery terminals direct to starter motor.

Bad solenoid. Test by jumping past solenoid direct to starter.

Good luck. Let us know what you find. :)

Thanks for the help. I checked voltage on battery with meter while cranking it was at 13.8 prior pulled down to 11.8. I have cleaned battery post but not on connections to motor, will do that and the other suggestions and get back to you, the sucker spins like a top with the plugs out of the engine.

ok shined all points again motor still spins very well until plugs are installed, with or without the plug wires connected it will not turn the engine over. I shorted across the solenoid without plugs starter works well with plugs in started still engages but will not engine will not spin fast enough to start, when plug wires are connected sparks come off the screw drivers I use to short it out at the solenoid

Start with a compression test. Then take the starter off.and clean/rebuild it.
See my starter post comming out soon.J

Usually they don't jump time.Unless you break the linkage.
I didin't read it right the first time.If It just started doing this when you installed a new flywheel then the magnet might be dragging. The keyway not in right.J

If it cranked over fine before installing new flywheel then I'd suspect that the cables & battery were not the culprit. If other suggestions don't work, check to make sure plug wires are on the correct plugs.

Make sure the flywheel isnt wobbling. Spin it by hand and watch it. I found out how to install the flywheel the hard way..I installed the key in the flywheel and tried to slide it on and it was wobbly and the starter was disengaging and reengaging chipping flywheel teeth. The best way to install it is slide the key on the crank as far as it will go and align the flywheel and give it a few light taps with your palm and it should slide into place easily. Mine was also hard cranking until I fixed this issue. Sorry for the super run on sentence.

Remove the spark plug wires, remove all spark plugs and turn flywheel by hand (clockwise from top). It should turn really easy without any drag. If there is any drag, investigate. If there's no drag, re-install plugs and wires (ensure orientation is correct on all wires). If the starter is still slow, get car jumpers. Attached red jumper directly to (+) starter connection and black wire to starter casing or mounting bolts. Now go ahead and connect the black wire to the negative terminal of the battery and then finally the red wire to the positive quickly just to see if the starter will crank over properly (make sure you have water cooling connected just in case). The engine shouldn't start since the ignition switch is in the "off" position. Did the starter crank over properly? NO? Get a new starter. Yes? Check all your connections starting with the ground (negative). Do this by disconnecting the black wire from the battery terminal and then try again by quickly touching the red cable to the positive battery terminal. Did it crank properly? NO? check your ground wiring from battery to the engine block. YES? Then check the positive wiring starting from the positive terminal of the battery through the solenoid and to the starter.

Thanks guys for all the help I will check all and get back to you. It makes me think that it trying to fire and the piston is trying to come up which would be timing but have no idea as to how to check or set
