Hey all, I own a 1970 Starcraft with a 1978 Mecury 115 2 stroke outboard. I'm looking to replace the motor with a 4 stroke. Given the cost of a new 4 stroke, I'm in the market for a reconditioned maybe even used one. Other than local boat shops and craigslist, what are some recommendations for reconditioned boat 4 stroke boat motors? Online sites are fine. Thanks - Ethan

this site here has a yamy 115 for sale .look in the motors section .don't discount etec or optimax either as I believe you would be doing yourself a disservice.i have a 76 16 foot ss starcraft with a rating of 85 hp.i have a 2011 60 etec on it and she preforms very well.

Don't overlook the direct injection 2 strokes.
Too many moving parts in the 4 stroke.
2 stroke has fewer and less complicated service intervals.
If buying used a compression check is a must.

I like your plan - there are several ebay sellers with high sales and strong feedback. That's always a good source. Iboats usually has several for sale. My suggestion is work out what you want and keep an eye out on the market over the next few months - really good deals do come along, but you have to wait for them.
