I have a 1977 Johnson 70 hp with power tilt only & found a 1985 Johnson 70 with power trim & tilt. Would adding the trim give enough benefit to be worth the $1200 it would cost to buy motor.

Consider this:

Would back surgery at the worst end, to strained muscles on the lower end, be worth that $1200 clams you shelled out for a PTT model motor?.....

Everytime you want to trim the motor....for a myraid of reasons.....you gotta go to the stern and yank and tug on a 200# pound chunk of metal.

No. The power trim is a very desirable feature but not worth $1200 by itself.

On the other hand, a complete, running '85 JohnnyRude looper 70 with PT&T can easily be worth $1200.

I would buy it and sell my '77 70. That should pay a good deal more than half of the price of the PT&T outboard.
