so my 28HP SPL stopped starting with the key today. i can jump from the 12v post on the solenoid to the 12v lead on top and the motor will start right up. I can then shut the motor down with the key switch or the kill switch lanyard. i also pushed the key in when it was running to choke the engine and it bogged down. so it seems the key works for some parts but not to start the motor. it does nothing when the key is turned.

love any help or guidance that can be provided. also what is the round thing in the mix of the wiring? it reads MX 5 W 21 in the pictures. could that be an issue?

thanks in advance. - mark

Overheat warning buzzer is the round thingy.----No model # posted , but look for a neutral start switch on motor linkages or control box.

to start the solenoid must receive power from the key S (start) post
choke works ok so the key is getting power on B+ so check the output of the switch S post when the key is turned to START if 12v then follow the wire with a voltmeter all the way back to the solenoid post . try wiggling the thorttle while the key is on START to see if you get a reaction.. has suggested it could be just a bad neutral switch.

see typical wiring from max rule site see yellow-red wire to solenoid
