I have a 1986 115HP Mariner and it wont trim at high speed. I thought i just lost my top end speed and took to Boat shop and mechanic said everything checked out ok with the engine. I told him that I lost about 15MPH on my Top end speed and he said it was not the engine. I took back to the lake and noticed that my motor did not tilt up as high as it use too. I did check the Fluid and it is full and dont know what else to check. I do notice that it will trim up all the way when i keep RPM under 2000.

Thanks in advance,

Re: Motor will not trim

Sounds like the same trouble I am having. Under power the motor is getting pushed all the way to its lowest position and making the front of the boat ride in the water. I ordered a rebuilt kit for the tilt/trim. I had to take the whole motor off to get the unit out. I now am about to rebuild the thing and hope it fixes my problem. Good luck, a new, used, or reman unit is $$$.
