1980 merc 225 s/n:5858553 fresh re-build on this motor, Starts with the first touch of the key and idles. When the motor is under load i can't get it over 2000 rpm (in forward).<br /><br /> thanks

I know this may seem like a dumb question, but do you have the fast idle lever all the way down? They will not run fast if this is not all the way down.. If so, run a comression test first, even though it was just rebuilt. Never know and now is the time to find out. Did the carbs ge rebuilt when the rebuild was done? If not, they should have been. Two reasons for this. One is to make sure this was not the original cause of the problem(Running Lean) and Two, the problem you are having now... Timing could also be a factor.. I would take it back to whoever did the rebuild and have them make whatever is wrong, right, if it were me...

Thanks for your help. Carbs were done i even jetted up main jets. Timing could be suspect cause i am running through the merc set up and i am not even close to what they are looking for, but motr runs good all the way through to 2000 rpm does'nt miss a beat. <br /><br />p.s i did all the work myself.
