motor won't start need help

trying to take granddaughter out for first time and boat motor won't start. plugs and battery ok and full of new gas. will turn over but not start. tried a couple of days. I know nothing about motors as it has always started when fuel is switched on and battery charged. can anyone help a lady in distress????

Well, Callie, so far we also know nothing about your engine.<br /><br />It is very unusual for a lady to not read the directions. Please go to the top of the page and read the instructions.<br /><br />Then come back and tell us what we need to know. :)

Check the emergency lanyard switch. Try pluggin and unplugging the lanyard from the socket a few dozen times. Often, moisture will get inside the socket, and corrode the contacts inside of it.

85hp electric start force engine. all i know about it maybe around an 1988 or so. sorry really do not know anymore. thanks for your patience callie

Callie!<br /><br /> Did you pump the hand pump on the fuel line? Did you try choking the motor ( pressing the key in while turning on most boats)? Do you smell gas? You could always try some starter spray, spray this directly into the carberator with the filter off and try to start the motor immediately. Also, you can press the button on the bottom of the throttle handle while pushing the throttle forward to give the motor some gas without turning on the prop. Wish i could help more, good luck!
