Motorguide 6700 trolling motor problems.

I bought an older Nitro boat with a 12V trolling motor on it. I replaced it with a used 24V trolling motor... Only thing is the foot pedal doesn't seem to control the propeller very well. What are the parts that wear out in regards to controlling the motor with the foot pedal?
