After about 5 minutes of running my trolling motor on the last trip out it went completely dead. I have taken the motor assembly about halfway apart and do not see anything obviously wrong (signs of water/burnt connections/etc...), but now I am unable retract the spring loaded contact to get the motor seated correctly and put it back together. It looks like I will need to disconnect the wires at the head and feed it down the shaft to give me enough slack to remove the motor completely, reassemble the motor and then put it back into the case. Any advice, tips, tricks or diagnoses would be greatly appreciated.

I will try to post some photos, but was unable t this time due to the files being to large.

Did you hear a "click" when the motor quit? I'm guessing the circuit breaker located in the red wire near the troller battery tripped due to a high current draw. Electric motors can draw excessive current if they are stalled (weeds, fish line wound tightly between the prop and motor housing, or due to a bearing drying out and tightening up). Always -- and I mean always troubleshoot the simple stuff rather than assuming the worst when it comes to electrical or mechanical problems. A simple check of the battery connections, the circuit breaker (or fuse in some cases) and turning the prop by hand can be accomplished in less than a minute and may have saved you the trouble of tearing into the motor.

Thanks I will definitely check the circuit breaker. I am a new boater so learning as I go and think I got a little ahead of myself on this one. I did check battery connection and cables. Thanks again for the info.

Sorry I did not answer your question earlier. No I did not hear a "click" when the motor stopped.
