I've seen and used a few trolling motor over the years. But unless they've changed how they are built, I've never ever seen any trolling motor with a reverse. Usually you use your foot controller to spin around the trolling motor to go backwards. I have seen a few transom mounted hand controlled with reverse but never a foot controlled version. JMHO!

No Title

thanks for the quick response. what is the #4 leg for - see picture? The part is called Switch assembly, rotary. there are 4 of them receiving the red wire plugs. They sit in the back of the speed dial. There are 5 speeds. I tested my motor, And it does not seem to affect anything even with that broken leg when i set the dial to constant on?

That looks like the feed from the momentary on switch on the foot pedal. Have you tried to run it with the foot switch? From what I see in the picture I don't believe the foot switch will turn on the motor. Replacement rotary switches for these motors are not that expensive and readily available.

yes, the foot control works the motor beautifully - all 5 speeds. Foot control also turns the motor left and right.
Just no momentary control as i suspected.
I will hook up a pulse width module to make the 24v batteries run longer.

ib18, if you do use a PWM circuit, make sure it is well heat sinked. Because they can get hot. And I would buy a new switch and install it. I am presently refurbishing a Minn Kota 24votl trolling motor and it has similar switches as well. I recently rebuilt a Motor Guide II foot controlled trolling motor. Even the older ones still have some parts available for them yet. When I rebuild one, I totally disassembly everything and replace the bearings, seals and seal cones. And of course wires as needed and brushes and connectors and repaint back to original finishes. Kind of fun to do... Good luck... :thumb:
