What do you have to say...looking for a bow mount motor..which brand do you have and anything to think about in terms of differences.

Re: motorguide VS Minkota

You will generally get, "I have owned X and happy or what problems that they have had with X." To me, MK or MG is just a Ford/Chevy discussion. Focus on what type and features you may want or use, then see what options you have on brands and models.

- Transom VS Bow
- Set speeds VS Variable
- Shaft length needed
- Lbs Thrust needed (which drives battery requirements)
- Bow Steering (hand, cable, wire, wireless)
- Transom steering (tilt, fixed, backtroll)
- Mounting footprint or transom width
- Metal shaft VS Composite
- Integrated sonar or not
- Auto Pilot or not
- Budget, which may elliminate allot of wants

Related things to think about/consider:
- What size batteries (reserve needed)
- Where will the batteries be located?
- Wiring size and length, including circuit breaker, plugs, and switches
- Marine charger

I've owned several of both models, I would have to say overall MK was better but you really can't go wrong with either of them.

thanks yeah i figured they were very similar it just seems that all the new boats have MK and it's the only brand i see in the local outdoor stores. I think i am going with a MOTOR GUIDE cause i like the Cable steer, and they are about 10% less for same # and transom length
