Has anyone tried to silicone a transducer to the bottom of a boat with success? I hate for pay another $100 for thru hull transducer unless I have to.
Thanks,

I haven't, but I'll bet my boat that silicone won't work. I'm in the same situation as you right now. I've got a through hull transducer that came with the boat, and I hate it. It actually came loose and I have no plans on attempting to glue it back on. 3M 4200 or 5200 would probably work just fine. Until I saw your question, I was going to drill, but I really don't want to do that. I'm anxious to see what more experienced have to say, but I bet 4200 will be just fine.

4200 is strong, but you can remove it if you have. 5200 becomes part of the boat.

Steve, did you ever think about epoxying (glue) it back inside the hull. I have two in mine and never a problem. That might be the trick for mounting on bottom. (outside). Silicone/4200/5200 isn't going to work IMO

Just for clarification I was talking about using Silicone on the INSIDE of the boat, Bad wording on my part. Will the regular transducer work through the bottom of the boat or does it take one that is made for that?

Are you asking if applying silicone on a transom mount transducer and placing it in the bilge to use as a "shoot thru"? I think it would work, however, I've read that a transducer will probably "fry" due to not being in the water. Best to buy an Airmar P79 "shoot thru" ducer
