I have a '77 basscat and I am putting an 85hp force engine on it. with the engine sitting on the transom and all the way down the cavitation plate is about 1 3/4" above the pad on the bottom of the boat. Is this acceptable or do I need to cut the transom?

Typically, the cavitation plate should be level with the bottom of the boat. Do you have pictures?
