I need to mount a Merc 60, Big Foot, on to a 24ft pontoon boat. How deep do I need to have to cavatation plate in the water??? With the oridinal engine, the plate sat about 6 inched in the water. I have heard that the plate needs to be near the bottom of the toons. Can someone clear this up? Thanks

Re: Mounting Engine

Pontoons are not speed demons to start with so engine height is not as much of an issue as it is with a boat. What is a problem is not getting deep enough. People tend to move about more on pontoons so when the boat gets nose heavy, the stern rises and the prop ventilates. My recommendation is to mount it in full down. On the very high powered and tri-toons you could experiment with engine height for best performance but on toons with smaller engines it is simply not an issue.
