I am about to install an aux motor bracket (Adjustable) on the left hand side of my boat. Is there a specific height to mount it ?
The motor is likely to be a short shaft 6 hp Suzuki. Are there any other things to look out for ??
The boat is here http://www.myfishingpictures.com/img/003654.jpg

In Aussieland...

G'Day, Andrew.

Position the bracket so that when fully down the top of the mounting surface is 15" above the bottom of he boat.

Good luck. :)

Hi Andrew,

What size is your boat? It looks as if it is a 15ft fibreglass. I don't think a 6HP is going to do the trick. More like an 8HP is needed.

4.55 m to be exact.. Good call
It will be used for an auxiliary only on calm days in our bay (Port Phillip Melbourne)no intention of ocean use an max 4 people. Most boats I've seen have 4.5 -9.9 hp But I appreciate the advice. Better that I know now than after buyng one.

Suppose you've only got a couple of weeks left before the snapper leave the bay. Which part do you fish?

Sorry about the delay answering, but the 6hp is more than enough.. I have mounted and let her push the boat home.. It is a ripper of a little motor.(Those Japs have really excelled themselves)
It cruises along with 2 on board 1/2 throttle and will get us back from anywhere in the bay.
Yes, the snapper won't be here till November. Areas targetted are Werribee Sth , Corio Bay and Westernport.

http://www.myfishingpictures.com/img/003654.jpg

It's really nothing special, just an '80's 4.55M f/glass boat made by a Melbourne (Aust) company between 1980-1990. The thing is, that it is very rare. Only seen a couple, and none with the Unicorn moulded into the front hatch.(top RH pic) The prev owner bought it from his uncle and they kept it very well, and annually serviced (Have the paperwork) so it is really very clean. Purchase price here was only @$7,000 all up which is $3,500.00 US. A bit of trivia.. A guy that works with me, worked at Unicorn in the '80's as a boat builder, and he told me that they were very solidly built. (How's that for fate)
