I recently purchased a new propeller for tubing in my 19' Bay Boat with a Suzuki DT140.

When changing the prop, how tight should the nut be on the shaft?

You're probably at the point where you either feel it's too loose for the pin or if you go around one more time it's really tight. I always go until its tight then back it off until I can get the pin through it, the splines hold the prop, and the nut only keeps it from slipping off.

Prop nut torque spec should be in your owner's manual. I know for my Yamaha 150 it's 41 ft/lbs.
