How do you mount a transducer on a hall? I seen boats with looks like a plastic block mounted on the hall. You don't want to drill holes in the hall, do you?

Re: Mounting Transducer

I am currious about this too. I have my transducer mounted on my hull right now and the previous owner had a few, so there are many filled holes. When I repaint the boat I would like to put a block on to mount them to so I minimize the holes in the boat. Any suggestions on what to use?

The plastic block is indeed an option. However, many of us do indeed drill holes in the hull. Sealed properly with 3M 4200 or 5200 and you should not have a problem (especially in your aluminum boat where there's probably not wood behind where you're mounting your transducer).

Screws seem to be the common method...your transom is probably 1 1/2" to 2" thick at least at the bottom where the transducer goes....use short screws, 3/4" long or so and put a dab of sealant on them when you run them in.

edit: didnt know he had an aluminum boat...but the rest still applies.

Risking a thread hijack, I was wondering the same. Would 5200 hold a plastic block sufficiently, allowing me to mount the transducer to it with screws, avoiding putting a hole in the hull?

Its very difficult to adhere a poly board with any type of adhesive successfully unless you drill holes in your hull to mount it with screws. Polyethylenes are very oily and do not bond well to anything. Drilling holes in your boat hull is not cool and they will leak one day. Take a look in the restoration portion of this forum regarding water in a boat hull. I've seen all sorts of "HOW TO" help on that issue of drilling holes, but think about it a second. If you asked them to agree to stand behind any liability for damages and water intrusion into your boat hull if they would mount it for you, would they do it? I think you know the answer!

Hose clamp it to lower end, or to trolling motor lower end, or through the hull. just use an adhesive that hardens, "no screws". just clean surface with acetone ,it leaves no chemical residue.
