Mounting Transom Saver on Trailer

Just bought a Lowe FM165. I am adding a transom saver as I will be trailering often and long miles at times. I purchased the Cabelas frame mount yesterday. The design uses a slotted hole in a bracket that is mounte to the trailer frame. Why can't I just drill a slotted hole in the frame? This seems to make more sense than mounting another piece of metal to a metal frame? Has anyone tried this before? Is the trailer frame too thin to handle this type of load?

Thanks

Re: Mounting Transom Saver on Trailer

There are quite a few designs of transom savers.
Basically they attach from the motor lower unit to the trailer frame right under the drain plug.
If you have a specific question about the one you have, post a pic of the area in question so we can see what you are asking about.

I opted to drill a hole in the trailer to insert the saver bar. Seems to work fine. Going fishing in the morning assuming it doesn't rain

I done the same. The only reason you would use the bracket would be if you drill a hole in the frame, it will cause the edges of the hole to rust, and eventually the rust will expand out, weakening the frame. KNowing this, I still drilled the hole.I have patches of rust anyway that I need to eventually get to, just add one more :)

Is the transome saver you purchased curved or straight. The one I purchased is straight and it may have to be ruturned.
