I am looking for a larger motor for my boat. I am pretty handy but have never done this type of work. Anything special to know about mounting a motor or taking the old one off?

Re: mounting

The newer outboards are attached to the transom with four 1/2" bolts (stainless steel for salt water), washers and nylon lock nuts. if your old motor has this type of attachment, it should be an easy swap. Older motors had clamp screws and different bolt patterns. If you have that, fill the holes with silicone and drill new ones.

Re: mounting

depending on size of engines you might need a hoist, soak rusty bolts with penetrating oil the day before and up till wrench time, check transom for problems while the motor is off, if transom is weak, repair it first, ad transom bracket if desired, Hey! Are we talking outboard installation or Inboard?
