I am going to be fitting Smart Tabs in coming week, to a Maxum 1800SR3 on a Karavan bunk trailer.
The Tab position means that the tie down straps at the rear can't be used from current transom points to trailer fittings.

Position on Tabs will be at position B in above photo ... which means straps will have to be moved.
Anybody know of a neat way to provide new Tie down points without welding ?

buy 2 - 1/2 inch eye bolts, and drill the cross member of the trailer.

It's an option, but trying to avoid drilling holes in it as it gets dumped in salt water on every launch.
If I have to .. then so be it.

Buy some aluminum flat stock, something substantial like 1/4 thick by 2.5 wide. Then drill a hole in the end for the tie down to go thru. Attach flat stock to the trailer cross member using a stainless steel u bolt. You are right, I would not drill a hole in your galvanized trailer, it will rust there for sure.

looking at your picture, how about putting a bent metal tab with 2 holes (one to mount and one for strap) on the lower bolt on the bunk brackets.

I had a similar problem with my set-up simple solution for me was to by a set of Rod Holder tie down straps, instead of running the straps strait down the transom I run them around the side to the trailer. I also added 12" of chain and snap clips to extend the tie downs. It holds the ransom down as well as running them straight down.
