I had moved the batteries from the transom to the forward cabin (25 ft away) and used a combination of 4 and 6 gauge wires with a terminal in between.

if the gauge wasn't think enough could that have caused a check engine light to come on?

I just swapped those wires out for a solid 2 gauge wire from the motors to the batteries and the light no longer comes on.. was that the problem / fix?

thoughts?

motors are: 97 Johnson Oceanrunner 200hp 2-Stroke

The Check Engine alarm is for a fuel restriction. It should not have anything to do with moving the batteries. If your battery cable are too thin, the starter will turn slow and the cables will get hot.
