Hey everyone I was just curious to about what MPG most of you are getting with the 90 HP on average. I have a 2001 90HP 2 stroke 4cyl. Johnson and on average I get about 3mpg (somewhere really close to that) Usually I'm moving pretty good and not thinking about saving gas :D I found out the hard way of how accurate my calculation was one day  anyways is this good? I'm not too sure, just curious to know what other similar horse powered engines are getting. Thanks everyone in advanced

Re: Mpg

In miles per gallon, that's not too bad. I've had some boats that did worse, some better. I have an older 90hp crossflow on my 18-footer and I get around that number if I'm not heavy handed on the throttle. If I run it hard it'll go down from there.

Re: Mpg

I have a nice little ported Chrysler 90. She burns six gallons between 45 minutes and an hour at full throttle for somewhere around 4-5 MPG. Of Course, My Force 90 on a go-fast hull at higher RPM and speed burned significantly more--around 2-3 MPG

Go to: Yamaha Outboard Performance Bulletins, plug in your boat, motor combination for info on MPG, MPH, GPH, at every speed and RPM. This is for Yamaha motors but should be similar for other brands. This chart is helpful for best cruising efficiencies. Good Luck!

Re: Mpg

Thanks Robert I didn't know about that site, it's very helpful. What size tanks are most of you running on your 90hp or did use with your 90hp? I only have a 20 gallon tank and for some reason that just doesn't seem like enough to me at all. I really don't have room for a bigger one so I guess I'll just have to carry a extra jug of gas with me

Re: Mpg

there are a thousand and one variables that can affect fuel consumption.my boat weights 500 naked ,im using a 21 p prop(stainless),more or less flat bottomed hull (cedarstrip).i went to my bro,s camp fully loaded and cruising at a loafing 30mph and used 3 gallons for 27 miles exactly by gps.all gallons in imperial, sorry guys!pin it and watch the gas flow fast and furious!50 mph, plus a tad!

Re: Mpg

Fuel tanks are not "engine-specific" -- they are "boat-specific" meaning the boat manufacturer puts in whatever side fits their hull. 20 -30 gallons is very common on most 16 - 18 foot runabouts.
