MSD does build a CG certified marine version of the 6A...

I have an MSD 6A on my truck.. It makes a noticable difference...

snapperbait, what difference did you notice? My only hesitance to do this to a marine engine would be if it fails, how can the average boat shop diagnose it?

DHP

Re: MSD Ignition

Seat of the pants. Small but noticable power gain over OEM ignition...

The spark at the plug is hotter.. The plug fires multiple times per cycle up to a point.. After rpm reaches the point where the spark can'nt fire multiple times, the spark burns for a longer duration which inturn burns the mixture more completely..

As for diagnosis, if whomever installs the MSD does so per instructions and uses the provided male/female connectors, the ignition system can easily be put back to OEM to rule out a faulty MSD box by swaping a few wires..

Re: MSD Ignition

That's assuming the instructions are given to the person trying to fix it, and assuming the owner remembers it. Otherwise us poor ole marine mechanics are going to catch ell for taking so long to diagnose a problem.
Luckly that has never been a complaint from customers in the past

Re: MSD Ignition

hello
if your current ign system is working well you wont find much difference. if its not its cheaper to repair it so its in stock form. good luck and keep posting.
PS I have a KV tester for checking secondary fireing voltage, even with some of the super duper whazoo systems its rare to see any that actually run more than about 10 Kv unless the spark plugs are fouled.

I agree with rodbolt........
The Merc. T-bolt IV, or T-bolt V are about as Good as it Gets........

I personally believe that the Gains would not be worth the investment..........
