multifunction yamaha tach

I just purchased and installed a multifunction tach on my 05 yamaha 4 115 did not get the 05 guage so i bought the adapter harness also install went fine and everything works great except I have no running light on the guage when I turn on the key I hooked the red green black to coresponding wires on the 703 control unit only other guage I have is a fuel guage which is hooked to the yellow wire I hooked both guages to the yellow wire is this correct if so why no running light

is there a blue wire coming off it.... if so that is the light wire.....

when you say blue wire do you mean off the wire harness or control unit ther is no blue wire on the wire harness but I see one coming off the yammy control unit

if you just ran some wire that is whats missing, if you used the correct harness between the 703 box and the tach you will have a blue and a yellow about 10" apart that can be hooked together to have backlights with key on. the blue wire coming from the tach is the lamp lead. if all the black wires are hooked to battery negative than any battery positive on the blue wire will cause the lamp to light. this allows for having the light on a switch or with the keyswitch.

If you put a switch between blue and yellow you have to first turn the key and the optional switch control th backlight in the instrument.<br /><br />I belive the red cable is going direct to the battery (that would mean its not controlled by the key). Using yellow to red with a switch in between would make it possible to turn on the backlight while the instrument are off. This would also make it possible to forget the backlight on which could empty your battery...
