I asked these in my project thread but figured this may get a quicker response. I am prepping my boat for new gelcoat and first is I dont have the ability to easily flip the boat but is there any problems with putting padding or carpet down and just rolling the boat onto its side to work on the bottom half at a time? Next there are snaps screwed into the cap for covers, should I remove these? if so how do I fill the holes? Also I would like to move the gas filler from the side to the top to make it easier to add oil so whats the best way top fill the old hole? Is there any preference in gelcoats? I have seen anywhere from $60 to $140 a gallon. How do I prep the nonslip areas on the bow floor and the swim platforms? and Lastly can I gelcoat over the edging for the bare fiberglass? I have included Pis of most of these areas. I appreciate any advice.
Here is a picture of one of the snap screw holes:

Here is the gas filler hole:

1,..Sure,... You can do Whatever you'd like to make whatever areas Accessable...

2,..The Snap Holes are easily filled with home-made Peanut Butter, or just use commercial Bondo...

3,..The old gas-fill hole can be closed by using resin,+ fabric to close it,+ fairing compound to feather it out...

4,..Gelcoat is just another polyester Resin, intended to be shot into a mold at the beginning of the lay up schedule...
I Paint boats, so I won't comment on Gelcoats...

5,..Just like Any other surface being coated,.... Sand it.... The Only bonding going on is Mechanical....

Thank you Bond-o sorry for the formatting. I was hoping you would say something like that for the screw holes. I didnt want to have to grind them down and glass over them because there are so many and i would never get it streight again. filling a little hole I can do.

Ayuh,... I hate to keep Bytchin' about it All the time,..
But,...
Folks coming here for Free advice need to understand, that Free comes with a Tiny price...
Just make the posts Readable... Especially for Us ole farts...

Ideally,... When you do the snap holes,... Put the bondo in with abit of pressure, allowing it to extrude into the inside, then run your finger over the Inside to give it more of a Mechanical binding factor...

Re: Multiple bodywork questions

I used a large drill bit and drilled a bevel into the hole I was filling just to keep it from popping out.

Also, if your boat is fiberglass I would not roll it on its side ESPECIALLY if the cap is off. So many things can go wrong here.

Re: Multiple bodywork questions

It is fiberglass but the cap is on it. I am just afraid of stresses and such that could cause cracks or unforseen damage. I am just used to cars which have liftpoints so there is no guessing where the manufacturer wanted you to lift the car.
