Some time ago I saw what I would call a multipurpose tachometer. It was a console with multiple switches and a dial. The switches will set up the poles and other stuff and I cant remember how high would that dial go to. In essence it was an unit built to clock different types of ignitions systems. I did not bought it as it was in a pawn shop and they would not let me test it. It was like $35 dollars only and in retrospective I wished I had bought but it is since gone. I am looking for such hardware. I want it for marine motors, chainsaws (high rpms 22k) and the 4wheeler.
Also, I have a marine tach that I use for the evinrude. It has the poles setting in the back. Can I use it to set up the 4wheeler? I would think I can. This is a 2 stroke 1997 polaris Xpress 300. It only has one spark.
Where will I connect it to get the pulse and where will I set the pole setting?
Thanks!
PS - I recently bought the optical tachometer from harbor freights. Is the optical one which is fine as long as you can see the axis that you are measuring which is not easy accomplished sometimes... as in the case of the 4wheeler. Anyone has tried it and how good it seems to work?
