I am having a problem with the pull start on my lawn mower. When it is running it is rubbing on the plastic ears that engage the flywheel. I have replaced the ears and the assembly once and it stripped out the ears in 20 minutes. Nothing looks warped on the flywheel and I don't want to buy another assembly as I am sure it will be ruined right away. This is the one disadvantage to an early spring in Wisconsin. Normally I would have another month to deal with this.

Dont know much about this starter, but I have noticed that on some of my gear, if the starter gear does not disengage then the recoil spring has simply slipped out of the groove in the housing. Simple fix just takes about 30 minutes.

Look at the attached drawing and check piece 455, 456, 459, 689 and 597. Ensure they are aligned, no wear, and lubricated. They should fit easy and the pawls shoud move freely. Verify the alignment and that the spring is not binding, spray some lubricant on the spring, and some white grease on the pawls and shaft.
