fired up my rebuilt power head on my 112 today.
ran good and smooth through different rpm's for about 30 mins.
2 issues I though I'd ask the experts about, new water pump has good pee stream through output hose, and prop outlet, I thought I remembered water coming or spraying out those 2 exhaust outlets in back above water line? also slight water leak between power head and lower unit on one side. going to check tightness of bolts, and as per manual, I installed dry with new gasket. Tach is still very erratic with new rectifier and I need to double check over heat warning system. all heads got warm, but not super hot. I could put my finger on them for about five secs before too hot. any insight would be appreciated,, thanks, joe

On the hose you may not see any water coming out of the two exhaust holes on the back but with the motor in the water you should see some. You say that you have a leak between the powerhead and lower unit but there is a midsection in there between them, if it is leaking between the power head and mid section then one of the gasket surfaces must not be flat. I usually install all gaskets with OMC gasket sealing compound regardless as to what the manual says. However if your leak is coming from between the midsection and the gearcase, it is usually normal to see some leaks there. Don't know about the tach situation, but i would test the grey sender wire to another tach just to rule out the tach being faulty. Without a pyrometer it is hard to check temp...but usually if you can keep your hand on the heads for 5 seconds it should be below 130 degrees. To test the hot horn just disconnect the temp sender and then touch the harness side of that connector to ground. You should hear the alarm for as long as it is being grounded. Good luck...hope this helps.

Thanks for that info,, Im gonna get on it first am, and check the temp warning horn and all the tach connections. Im always battling corrosion on the wiring. Boat is 98% saltwater. Im just glad to hear it run again!
Did kinda notice # 1 cylinder seemed alittle hotter than other side, but thought I read somewhere that is normal?
Maybe I need a new tool Thanks, joe

You want to make sure the new powerhead lives-check it's temp with a laser gun to make sure of the operating temp. A friend may have one or you may be able to rent one from a local parts shop. You are looking for 145-155 idle temps. When on the trailer, running, you should see water droplets coming out the exhaust relief holes once the stats open. Ronnie is right that you will see huge water flow out of these holes once you are on plane. You should retorque the heads, exhaust cover and the powerhead to adapter bolts after the engine goes through it's first heat/cool cycle. That may cure the base gasket leak.

I wasnt too clear on my leak,,, I never removed middle section, only power head and lower unit; had new water pump installed, but never touched mid section. Hopefully some to those powerhead bolts just need to be re-torqued. I didnt crank them too tight, Im afraid of aluminum threads! Ill check torque specs and re-tighten. I can see good gasket all around, so I know thats in good shape. Aside from little water leak,, she's purring like a kitten!
