My 1970 chrysler 70 outboard

My 1970 chrysler 70 outboard is having problems turning over... I had to put a new timing belt on and think it might be the timing. i think it may be too rich.... any suggestions??? please help!!!!

If it's having trouble turning over it could be as simple as bad/loose/dirty connections on the battery cables and at the starter and the solenoid. Clean them all. Make sure your battery is fully charged. Your starter may be going bad too and dragging. When you replaced the timing belt, did you set the gear on top of the distributor so that when the flywheel is at "0" or TDC, the little curved line embossed on top of the distributor gear is parallel with the outer diameter of the flywheel. (It should look like it is "smiling" almost.) Again, clean and gap your points (remove the distributor cap to gain access) to .014" . If you have surface gap plugs with no electrode you're ok there. Make sure you have good fuel and give it a shot. Good luck...
