IMG_20250821_175704009_HDR.jpgso this is my 1981 Imperial had to research it because I don't have any labeling on the boat of what year it is. I purchased this boat last year in 2024 and had mishaps trying to get to the lake. First thing that happened was I got the boat prepped it was running took it out to the lake and forgot that the gas tank vent was closed. when I got out to the lake the boat wouldn't run barely made it to the dock to put it back on the trailer. Found out later on that the vent on the gas tank was closed shut. The next time I went to the lake the the boat made it off the dock into the now wake area beautifully it wasn't until I gave it some throttle that the boat just choked and died. Barely made it back to the dock to put the boat back on the trailer. The next day at home I checked out what it could have been thinking it may be a fuel pump. However it wasn't it was a big diaper rag that I was using to clean out excess fuel under the cowling. So I accidentally left the rag in there and the carburetor at the bottom had sucked it in killing the motor. I'd like to report that lately I've had better luck I had to work on the lower unit anyway on my Mercury 115. I did accomplish sealing it up. And have been out to the lake two times here in August. Both trips without any mishaps. Truly a blessing.

If it is a American made Imperial there's a good chance that you have a Hull Identification Number ,HIN , in the upper right corner on the outside of the transom with letters and numbers . The last 2 numbers are the year built . So if yours is a 81 , that engraved number will end in 81 . There is more decoding with the HIN numbers ,in case you have them.

Glad to hear you got those issues sorted and are finally having some good days on the water. Enjoy the boat.
