Ok I bought new carb, new fuel pump diaphragm, and new impellor. Pump up primer ball and pull this sucker and it fires right up. Runs great, spraying good water, sounds good. Runs for 10 minutes and looses prime and dies. pump up primer ball and pull the cord and same thing. I wish it would run like my 74 evinrude. Anyone know why this is happening? Craziest thing Ive ever seen. Dont wanna put any more money in this boat anchor LOL.. Thanks in advance...

no doesnt have a vent and my 74 evin runs just fine hooked to it. I connect right to the fuel pump I hate quick dis-connects.

I know you just replaced the diaphragm, but this sounds like a fuel pump issue. Just for grins, loosen the cap on the fuel tank and run the Force. The pump may just be very weak compared to your Rude. If you are sure the diaphragm and gaskets that you just replaced are not bad, you must be losing vacuum to the pump.

Update, swapped fuel pump diaphragm and she purrs like a kitten. ran in tub for 20 minutes then shut down. I said what is going on. Fired it back up ran for 15-20 minutes great then shut down. it sure sounds good when its running. gonna check plugs even though they are brand new as well.

How long between restarts? Right away or enough time that ignition components can cool down?

That's what I was thinking, but if it starts up right away that's probably not it. When running, is it at idle or WOT? Are you doing this on muffs, barrel, or in a lake? Do you know what the RPM is while running?

in a barrel and it idles good and WOT sounds good and moves water in the barrel in both forward and reverse.

Before it stalls does it sputter? Like it is starving for fuel. Does it stall at WOT and idle? After it stalls, is it a one pull start or does it take a few pulls? This one is real confusing. Upload some pictures and a video of it running if you can.

I'd loosen the fuel tank cap a bit. The Evinrude might have a stronger fuel pump that can fight a small vacuum.

Ok I did that now it wont run as long. seems like its running out of gas. I swapped fuel pump diaphragms and the same thing. I bought the new diaphragm from i-boats and its probably a cheap version knock off so I just ordered another quick silver brand from marine engines. The reeds in the pump assy. look good with them seating flush with no light coming through. I know it has good compression unless Im losing compression after it gets warm but dont think so. when it dies it will fire back up after 5 pulls. If I pump the primer ball while its running it will die. when I pump the primer at first start up, alot of gas is filling the throat of the carb where I can actually see it sitting in the throat. The carb is brand new from i-boats as well. I didnt check the carb just put it on there assuming it was set from the factory.:blue:

What is your model number of your motor?

Okay, lets start at the basics. Check compression, check spark, and double check your carb. It would not be the first time that something new is actually broken. Make sure everything in the carb operates as it should. Make sure the float functions properly, if you see fuel in the carb throat, the float is not seating the needle valve correctly. Make sure the needle valve is not damaged. Turn the carb upside down and ensure the float is parallel with the rim of the housing assembly. Did you rig the butterflys correctly, when you installed the carb?
