the plate on the transom bracket reads...

OB187273

What am I doing wrong, I have been assuming that it was an 1989 (that's what I was told when I bought it)...

I need to know for sure since the coil for the top cylinder has died and needs to be replaced.

edit.......

**** I called the dealer and they told me its an 87*****

They also told me how to swap the coils ( I left the one with the short lead dangling and used a alligator clip to make up the ground) to see if the problem followed the coil..... and no it didn't, so the coils are OK it is apparently the switch box.

I was told $250.... ouch.... can I get it cheaper in Canada.

Thanks

So that should be a 0 , zero not an O. Go to mercurypartsexpress website. look for the Search by engine Ser #. type in 0B187273 and you can see all your parts diagrams. You have a 1987 motor. Your switchbox is p/n 7452A19 with a list price of $179.92
