My AC quit working! (That's a big deal in MS)

...and it's starting to get hot out! <br /><br />My '92 Chevy 1500's ac won't engage. The fuse is fine. There's power to the fuse block but nothing at the compressor. I pierced the wires with a probe with the ac on (near the compressor)and nuttin happened. Haynes is pretty vague on ac topics. They basically refer you to the dealer and tell you to bend over. Ouch.<br /><br />What else could I check that might prevent the compressor from engaging? Is there a relay somewhere that I'm missing? <br /><br />Thanks.<br /><br />spots

low pressure cut out. Once your gas has leaked out, it will prevent you compressor from engaging.

Those trucks are famous for the A/C comp cycling switch just failing. Its mounted on the accumulator, (silver tank pass side of engine compartment) unplug it and use a jumper to bypass it. If the compressor runs and cools the truck just unscrew the switch and replace it.<br /><br />If the compressor runs but does not cool, its lost freon charge. If the compressor still wont run, it does have a compressor relay, which is controlled by the ECM. The ECM is a grounding ckt for the relay.

What Reel poor said mine went out a couple years ago,and we jumped it,filled her up with cold stuff and she worked fine,i dont know about now because i dont use the ac,it spoils me and im like an old dog,i like the wind in my face good luck with it.BY the way it aint that hot there is it??
