My boat is dead......

1986 Merc. 175 on a Ranger 371V...<br /><br />Took it out Sat morning and everything was fine, now I turn the key and nothing comes on and if I try to start the motor nothing happens... No sounds clicks etc. Battery is good... I'm getting power to the bilge pumps, boat lights, aerators etc. But everything running off of the ignition switch is dead... I checked the voltage to the switch and I'm not getting power to the switch. I'm getting power to the soleniod on the motor however...<br />Could this be a bad rectifier? How can I check this? Any advice would be appreciated...

There should be a fuse on the engine that has blown.<br /><br />TMD

Thanks Doc,<br /><br />Can you help me with the fuses.... I found one in-line fuse that comes off what I think is the rectifier (not sure on that) on a small red wire that headed into the wire bundle out of the motor, it looked good.. Is there more than one that I need to check?

TMD sounds right there should be an inline fuse somewhere on the engine mine was tucked down along the starboard side of the engine. When mine went I had accidentally hooked up the battery wrong and had several good outboard mechanics stumped when I was pulling it home to bury it in the back yard I remembered a fuse I got when I purchased my motor new, nobody new what the fuse was for, in my case it was the magic fuse hopefully this helps>

I got it fixed guys, thanks....<br /><br />There was another in-line fuse that I didn't see last night... Sure enough it was blown...<br /><br />

Make sure you pack a spare fuse in the boat, never know when that may happen on the water!
