Although the registration card lists boat as 16'....the brand new tarp I ordered/installed says its a foot and a half longer! I think the previous owner had purposely done this because he had a youth that would drive it.....in Georgia, we have laws that limit kids to 16'....may bee this is why this was done?
The tarp covers and ends in a spot where the boat will not suffer much at all, as any rain will simply drain down into a trough right below the motor housing but the tarp leaves a nice gap/ entry bay for animals/ birds etc ..I am gonna try to get bigger tarp....I wonder what the policy is for tarps and if they'll let me...I hope so.....

Before you bought the tarp did you measure the boat including any items that the tarp has to go over? A 16' long tarp doesn't usually lay perfectly flat on a boat. There are places that it has to go over and that takes up some of the length of the tarp.

My officially, 16' Sport Craft is 15" 1". They seem to round up.

It's a man thing....a 22 ft. boat with a bow pulpit becomes a 24 ft. boat.....lol

If can't exchange for a larger cover, can double up on tarps, but I found the hard way that the one underneath takes a serious beating with the abrasion. Still, could wrap a heavy plastic tarp around the boat, then cover with the tarp you bought.

You want considerably more tarp length than boat length when covering a boat.

I use a 12'x22' tarp to cover my 17' boat:

The last thing you want is fresh water standing in the splashwell.

Tarps are measured before the edges are folded and stitched so a 10 by 16 is only 9' 6" x 15' 6".

Boats are almost NEVER the quoted size! Especially around the 16' as you found out. My last tri-hull was rated at 15.5 feet, in reality it was just shy of 17 feet of hull length. My current boat is rated at 16.5, and LOA is over 18 feet. (technically 16.5 of hull length but 1.5 feet of integrated swim platform)

+1 ^^^

Tarps are smaller than indicated, and the boat may be bigger.
Consider at least 2 feet of overhang on each end and another foot or two to get over the windshield.

My 18 foot BowRider has a 12 x 24 foot tarp on it that is not over sized by any means.

I have to admit, this is the first time I ever hear a guy complaining about something being too long...

If you can't return it, just purchase another smaller one to cover the area that this one doesn't. It really doesn't need to be one piece...JMHO!

Thanks for commenting everyone! I am happy with what I've got.....the rest of what lies exposed can be easily covered...besides...the shorter rear portion just adds some convenience to when I want to access the fuel tank bilge pump etc.....
