Ok, well i'll start by saying thanks to all who helped with my new to me yamaha 15hp posts i made over the past few days. Anyways, i'm from Canada. I went into my local yamaha dealer and planned on buying a whole bunch of stuff including yamalube, yamaha marine grease, plugs, fogging oil, ring free. Well i ask for fogging oil and they say "we don't believe in the stuff, and yamaha doesn't make it". I said "well it says right in the manual it's recommended. Next i say, well i need some ring free. They didn't have a clue what i was talking about and thought i was on glue. I said it's recommended right in my manual. They didn't believe me and hopped on their computer. They can't even order ring free in Canada and it's not even on the Canadian yamaha marine site. Same with the fogging oil. They basically told me to pour yamalube down the cylinders for winter. What's with yamaha selling the same product and not offering the same products for maintenance. I'm a little pissed that i can't even buy the stuff i need here. I'm now looking for an online retailer in the US where i can buy this stuff.

It will be difficult or impossible to find a retailer that will/can ship the flammable products across the border, or at a reasonable price.

Any fogging oil will work.
Seafoam or Mercury Power Tune will work.
BRP also makes a fogging oil and decarb spray.

Seafoam Deep Creep spray can be used as a decarb AND a fogging oil.

I know Sea Foam/Deep Creep (spray Sea Foam) works.

It's made in Minnesota. Maybe it has made it's way across the border. Do you have a NAPA or AutoZone there? Both carry it here.

UAP/NAPA used to not carry it, starting about this year they do.
Like roscoe said, you can go find a good BRP or Merc dealership and get the same sort of stuff there too.

In Canada, Yamaha sells "Yamaha Combustion Chamber Cleaner". It's not a fuel additive type cleaner though. Rather it's a spray down carb while running type cleaner.

Re: My dealership experience with yamaha

i just got a call from my local dealer and she called yamaha canada to see if they can get it. They said no go since they test the products and don't see a need to have them here in Canada. What a joke. One country recommends it while another does not while it's the same motor. Yamawho? I like the motor but if customer service is going to be like that i'm starting to wonder. I just called my local honda shop and they said for sure we cary fogging oil, while my yamaha dealer just says use 2 stroke oil. Hmmm, i'll be driving to the honda dealer and then i'll go to the mercury dealer in the spring for the ring free type product. Thanks guys.

Well Paul, I must have been shopping this year cause since the Xperts on this site introduced me to it I have started watching the shelves of the places where I shop and it's everywhere. Don't know why I didn't even see it, much less consider it before.

Re: My dealership experience with yamaha

its funny I can get all that in south america.
however
what your trying to do is protect the shiney parts while running and sitting idle.
if you cannot find the yamaha part numbers its ok to subsitute normally.
need to fog and have no fogging oil? mix a bit of fuel at 25/1 and run it.
only thing we do when fogging is try to insure we have enough oil on the shiney parts that they dont rust during storage.
dont have fuel stabilizer? drain the fuel bowl. blow out the pump and engine lines with the canned air for dusting purters.
if fuel aint in the system it dont need stabil.
come one guys, this is common sense.

outboards left in the vertical position self drain. the rest is a matter of protecting the shiney parts inside the crankcase and making sure the fuel system does not gum up. after thatr we dont care how cold the motor gets.

Re: My dealership experience with yamaha

Thanks rodbolt. I bought some Evinrude/Johnson fogging spray and i'm going to use that. I need to look around to see how to drain the carb bowls but i'll do that also. I live 3 hours from the US border but i frequent Vancouver which is right on the border, so i'll drive across and buy some ring free from a dealer next time i'm down. Thanks for all the help. I just want to keep this motor like new since it will be used in a heavy current river and dependability is a necessity.

As a Canadian, you can get most of this stuff at Canadian tire in the auto section. No it won't say Yamahahaha, but it'll work too.
