This will be my 1st boat although i have owned a few PWC's so I am not all that new to the water but a 19' boat compared to a 7' sit down PWC will be a bit different.

Anyway I wanted to get some input from the pro's that have been boating for some time and have purchased/fixed older boats up.

I have attached some photos of the boat I am going to be purchasing for roughly 1200 US w/ the trailer included and I would like some feedback. I will have to carpet the inside and build 1 or 2 side panels and replace the seats all except the driver seat.

So go ahead and give me your positive/negative feedback if you would and any ideas for the floor carpeting/panels/vinyl.

1989 Sunbird Cuddy Cabin 19'

Thanks!

Tony

Is that for real, a press board floor? And is it solid?

The rest of the boat looks good. The motor seems to be in excelect shape by looking at it. Have you run a comression test? Been on a test run?

Unsealed pressed wood fiber for floor board? That should last a couple of weeks of use, for sure. Better do an iBoat search on replacing the sole. (floor)

I have not picked the boat up yet the current owner put that floor in I assume so I'll have to replace it. The boat was run at a lake this past weekend without any problems I'll have to have a compression check done on it.

You definately have to replace the floor, probably why so cheap. Looks like the previous ovner got in over hid head. Use the search tab and look up floor replacement. Tashas Daddy and the rest of them have great advice to help you make a permanent repair.

Bye the way check the transom while your at it.:)

I have not found the info yet but how much floor board is used on the inside of this Cuddy? I'll continue looking around the forums also.

Re: My first boat have some questions

ok. i found you, at $1200 you are not going to get hurt. great motor if it check out. and if the trailer is good. when you see it again, tilt the motor up. now shake hell out of it up and down. watch the transom mount, does it flex. if not good, if it does there's just more work. the floor is going to have to come out, and i expect the old floor is under it. it will have to be cut out, along with any other rot under there. replace the wood, and refiberglass. it's never going to handle like a pwc, i have 3, and 4 boats, maybe 6 by the ended of the week.

Tony, welcome to iboats.
I resized your pics for you to make it better to read your post without scrolling from side to side.
Listen to the people on these boards, a wealth of knowledge rests here.
Again, welcome aboard.

That outboard looks great. It looks like a keeper even if the boat requires work. Good luck with it.

Re: My first boat have some questions

Ok folks I looked at the boat in person today and it was in great shape. The hull did not show any signs of beaching or any type of neglect. The person I am buying it from has both sides of the interior I will need to rebuild the upper halfs because they were damaged and I will also need to get 2 jump seats and back to back seats which I may build for what is left of this season.

We put what a friend of mine called ear muffs on the engine and cranked the engine with 1 turn and there is no noisy bearing noise or anything so the engine seems pretty sound and the person that owns it now has a shop and by the looks of it he takes pride in his work.

The fiberglass floor is in tact but near the rear where the door is on the floor he said is a little flimsy but with some treated wood and resin I think all will be good. The transom is solid I took a weight lifter friend of mine with me and he put it to the test.

Thanks for all the info I got here and I'll post again with any questions and pics of the resurection.

Thanks,

Tony

Carpet has no business in a boat, unless you are a glutton for punishment
don't ask me how I know...
