my force engine keeps on dieing.

i have a force 5 horse that keeps on dieing after 10 mins. i cleaned out the carb and put a fuel filter on. its still doing the same thing. so i put in a new impropeller for the water pump and it is still doing the samething. what should i do!

likely is one of 3 things.<br />1- overheating ?<br />2- loses spark when coil gets hot ?<br />3- runs out of gas ?<br /><br />Always post the year, model #, and serial number of your motor.<br />Its hard to recommend repairs if we don;t know what parts are on your motor.<br /><br />Does it get hot? too hot to hold your hand on the head for 5 seconds?<br /><br />Does it restart after it dies?<br />How long do you have to wait till it will restart?<br /><br />Does the fuel line bulb go flat? or does it stay semi firm?<br />Is the vent opened on the tank?<br /><br />Test for spark immediately after it dies.

i dont know the year of the engine but the model number is 52f8a and the serial number is 1142.<br /><br />it does get hot when it dies out but not hot enough to burn your hand. the vent for the gas cap is open and there is gas. usualy you only have to wait a couple mins untill it starts up again and then it dies out a couple secs later.

Your motor is a 1988 model.<br /><br />Try running it and give the fuel line bulb a squeeze once every 2 minutes, could be a weak fuel pump.<br /><br />Or try putting a small amount of fuel in a squirt bottle, and squirt it into the carb when the motor starts to die.<br /><br />Can you tell if you are getting water circulation?<br /><br />I wonder if the float is hanging up in the carb.

it was the fuel pump. i tried squirting fuel in the carb then i ran fine. so i have a weak fuel pump.<br /><br /> thanks for your time

Fuel pump diaphram and gasket is about $5 and any Mercury dealer can order it for you. Or go to Mercruiserparts.com.
