From the lower unit up my outboard is a 98 115 Johnson. My gearcase came from a junkyard and I was told it was off of an 89 115. However I believe it is from a late 70s model. I believe from 82 forward lower units had a sacrificial anode and mine has no sacrificial anode. However the water pump apears to be from a newer model from the diagrams I have seen. So here is my question, some of the water pump components are showing wear, I still have the lower unit parts from my original 98. I was thinking of just replacing the worn water pump completely with the waterpump from my 98. It looks like it would work, does anybody know if there would be any problems using a 98 waterpump housing with a 78-82 lower unit?
