Yesterday, I conducted the "maiden voyage" of my recently resurrected '76 Johnson 85hp. The motor ran great, in large part due to the good advice I've received and referenced from this site. Anyway... The one thing I don't like about the motor is the lack of a pee hole. Someone had previously suggested drilling and tapping into the motor. However, at this point, when things are going well, I'm not too sure I want to start drilling into the block. It seems to me that it would be easy to rig a modified automotive flushing tee into one of the two rubber hoses going to the heads. The modified tee would consist of a small, say 1/8" ID, barb type fitting machined and sealed into the tee cap. A length of tubing connected to the fitting would exit the motor. My question is... Is this a good place to do this? Or, perhaps, is water pressure only available here after the thermostat has opened?
