Went out fishing 3 weeks ago and both my main motor, the Force and my kicker a new Tohatsu 15HP, crapped out. The Force was the simpler diagnosis. Drained the LU oil and it was both low and milky. I was able to find a replacement Mercury LU locally. Got it at a great price. Vacuum tested and it held pressure, installed it found a minor problem with the alignment pin. Fixed it. Topped off the oil and installed it. Took it out on the water and found the earlier problems had spun the prop. New prop is installed.
On the way in at the first problem the Tohatsu conked out. Just today I found that the pickup tube had fallen off in the tank. Put that back on and zip tied it. It ran flawlessly for 15 minutes.
The moral of this story is that these money eating holes in the water we own can find all kinds of way to keep collecting and filling that hole. Going back out fishing Saturday!
