my motor wont start

Hello, I have a 1957 18 hp evinrude outboard motor model #15922 and im having problems getting it started.When I got this motor it ran great for a weekend then it started to stall out when I would slow down to idle. I could clean the plugs and it would run until I slowed down agin and when I gave it full speed it would take a wile and just kick in after a wile. now it wont start if it does it dies a few seconds later. I cleaned the carb changed the fule filter and changed the plugs.I am out of ideas can someone help me please.
