The local authorities regulate the moorings in my area . . . it has been that way for years now . . . so mooring spots are quite coveted and you do not want to lose them.

Since I upgraded from a 24 ft to a 33 ft boat recently, I was somewhat unsure if the Harbor Master would approve the larger boat size for my mooring location, since it was quite a jump. For some reason, they do not let you submit requests before the fact, so it is kind of a roll of the dice when you get a bigger boat.

Well, today, I got word that it is approved. :) So it looks like the F-330 will have a home in the water for the summers going forward. :D I am quite relieved, as it would have been an ugly process to appeal a denial, etc.

Sounds like "petty officialdom" at work!! You would have thought a pre-approval process would make life easier for everyone. Your harbourmaster is enjoying his/her job too much;)

I worried about the same sort of issue with my new boat. I'm in a 32 foot slip, bought a 30 ft boat that is 33 overall. Harbormaster told me ahead of time that it "should be ok", but there was an element of doubt until it sat there for a week or two without complaint.
Congrats on the new boat.

Congratulations, I know what a relief it is. While I am not in the same sort of system. Their is a normal 2 to 3 year waiting list for slip space where mine is kept. Last year I happened to be in the boat dealer ship that runs the marina to pick up some parts and one of the slip renters was in complaining about the cost to the marina manager and the renter was making a big show about not wanting to pay it any more and stormed out. snickers, so I looked at the manager and said will I have cash and I will take it over right now and to my surprise he said ok that works. I paid him. I did have to wait till the end of the mouth to slip my boat. But not the 2 to 3 years.

Yes, getting a slip or mooring space can be crazy. I recall that when I first got my mooring, I asked for 2 feet of draft when most folks were asking for 3+ feet of draft. The harbor is quite shallow, so the folks looking for 3 feet have a long wait. With a few phone calls of persuasion, I got the mooring in about 1-1/2 years, when the average wait was 5+ years.

Of course, I am locked in at 2 feet of draft, as my mooring location is in about 30 inches of water at dead low moon tide. Fortunately, my 33 foot boat draws the same as my 24 foot boat did - about 24 inches with the drives up. I think my 24 footer actually drew about 26 inches with the drive up, since it was Deep-V and single engine.

Yes, I have some pics of the 'new' ride and have posted them on some other threads, but here is one. . .

Here is a Google map of the mooring field Mine is "#24". . . fortunately I am on the end of a row, so there is some room for adjustment. Otherwise, I might have been out-of-luck. I think the moorings are about 80-90 feet apart.

The guy that maintains my mooring also called today, having just got word from the Harbor Master's Office. He said the I will need to go up to a 500 lb. diamond anchor (aka Dor-Mor). He said that they run about $3/pound
